SKILL SETS Project scoping and management / Product ideation / Data Acquisition and analysis / Machine Learning and AI applications / Communication and storytelling / Teamwork and collaboration / Influence and leadership / Design thinking for data science
DESIGNED BY Alex Marrs
In this Capstone course, students apply technical, analytical, strategic, and communication skills to design and deliver an end-to-end data science project. Working in teams, students engage in product ideation, project planning, and real-world problem-solving–often leveraging machine learning, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytical techniques–using open, pre-existing datasets.
The capstone challenges students to integrate core knowledge from across the MIDS program, combining technical expertise with critical thinking, collaboration, and project management practices. Students are evaluated on their ability to work dynamically as a team, manage project development from concept to execution, and communicate their findings through both written and oral presentations. Readings and case discussions supplement the hands-on project experience, preparing students for leadership and long-term success in the evolving fields of data science, AI, and machine learning.
