Operating System Security

3 Units

This course compares approaches to security taken among modern operating systems, covering design issues, principles, and good practices in securing systems in today’s increasingly diverse computing ecosystem. Students will appraise and apply strategies for enterprise management of “Things” and personal mobile devices, as well as *nix, Windows, and expanded processing in the Cloud. Students will assess the challenges of managing complex and evolving environments, for example, organizational constraints that prevent adoption of an OS best suited for a situation, and the difference between securing a single machine and securing a rack full or a datacenter full of machines — many of which are virtual, containerized, or managed through cloud services.

This course fulfills the System Security requirement.
